Man Whose Uncle Turned Into Houseboy Instead of Schooling Him Becomes Medical Doctor

Growing up, poor Willy Kasirye admired a rich neighbour working as a doctor, and he dreamt of joining the career
Unfortunately, Kasirye's father died while in primary school, and he was forced to live with his grandma
An uncle took him in, promising to school him but instead turned him into a houseboy before a stranger came to Kasirye's rescue

A young man

 who

graduated in May has recounted his hurdles to becoming a medical doctor.

Dad’s death shatters Kasirye’s dream to become doctor

27-year-old Willy Kasirye said growing up poor, he admired a wealthy neighbour who was a medical doctor.

“He was respectable, lived in a plush house, and drove a posh car. I got the drive to work hard and join the profession.”

However, Kasirye's dream died when his father passed away when he was still in primary school.

His mother could not afford fees and took him to his paternal grandmother’s home.

"Despite being poor, my widowed grandmother sold a parcel of her land and cleared my primary school fees."

Uncle exploits Kasirye, Good Samaritan to the rescue

One weekend, Kasirye's uncle from Uganda's capital Kampala travelled to the village and promised to take him to high school. However, the uncle had other plans when he got to the city.

“I regained hope but when I reached Kampala my uncle changed his mind and assigned me domestic work at his home for a salary.”

Shortly after, Kasirye was working at a neighbour's party when he met a white woman. He lied that he was in high school, and she gave him her

 business

card and KSh 50,000 to buy stationery."

He secretly enrolled at Najjera Secondary school as a day scholar. However, weeks later, his secret came to light when the heard teacher summoned Kasirye's uncle over fees arrears.

“My uncle asked why I was schooling without his consent. He ordered me out of his house.”

Kasirye stayed at a

 security

guard's house in the neighbourhood for three days before getting in touch with the white woman.

She was Julie Solberg, who runs a charity helping needy kids.

He shared his dream of becoming a doctor, and Solberg helped him re-join school and paid fees, school needs and food. Unfortunately, Kasirye could not join the university on government sponsorship, but Solberg pledged to sponsor him, and he joined Mbarara University of

 Science

and Technology to pursue medicine and surgery.

On Kasirye’s

 graduatio

n, she told

  Daily Monitor

that she would sponsor his master's as he specialises in urology.

Graduate who honoured mother gets job

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a young man who carried firewood on his graduation to honour his mother for her sacrifices landed a job opportunity.

 Ephraim Belete

made headlines when he donned his mother with a graduation gown and cap.

Belete and his mother were given a house prize by the Addis Ababa mayor, Adanech Abebe.
